The Truth About Blu-ray.com

This site will be updated as often as possible to keep the information as up to date and as accurate as it possible to do.

It has come to my attention that the people responsible for running Blu-ray.com, the website which has become the de facto representative of the Blu-ray Disc format are of dubious character and could potentially taint and harm the reputation and acceptance of this wonderful and burgeoning new technology.

I have found evidence showing that the owners/administrators of Blu-ray.com, Ingemar Henriksson and Patrick Ilmander, are involved in cyber-squatting, have ties to adult websites, and also seem to be connected to sites that promote illegal file sharing via P2P that appear to be scamming people out of their money. The file-sharing sites in question are Themoviedownloads.com and isoftwaretv.com. There are two domains registered to Henriksson that were redirecting to isoftwaretv.com at the time of this writing and they are TVDownloads.com and tvshowsonline.com. UPDATE: It seems now that all the links and redirects to themoviedownloads.com and isoftwaretv.com have been removed from Henriksson's domains. My guess would be that they are doing some house cleaning in light of their new found exposure.

Some of the "adult" domains registered under Henriksson's name include, but are not limited to, mlfs.com, xxxvideoshd.com and xxvideoshd.com. The email address they used to pay staff members for articles through PayPal is the same email address (marwin@acc.umu.se) that they have used to register hundreds of other domains. Simple WHOIS database searches are able to link this information to Ingemar Henriksson and his friend and business partner Patrick Ilmander. Note that "Marwin" is also the same screen name that Ingemar Henriksson uses on the Blu-ray.com forum. And look at this FAQ from Xvidmovies.com extolling the benefits of downloading movies via file sharing.

I have a list of all the domains registered to Ingemar Henriksson (which simple WHOIS database searches can confirm.) at the end of this post. Some of the domains are inactive, some of them redirect to even filthier URLs that (at the time of this writing) have been shut down due to violations of their host's policies, whilst some of them are active with generic place holders that link to other active adult websites that, one would assume, generate referral fees. I have also included a couple screen captures of the WHOIS results lest the registration information should suddenly become "private," like their Blu-ray.com domain, but it is easy to see from the list I have posted all the "Blu-ray" domains registered under Henriksson's name pointing to Blu-ray.com as well.

What makes things worse is this Themoviedownloads.com site is apparently scamming people out of their money as is evidenced by posts that can be read on The Better Internet Bureau Forum.

That Henriksson and Ilmander might be involved in such things is not a stretch, considering this home page for Ingemar Henriksson from ~2000 while still at university has him speaking of working on a "decentralized file-sharing program" as his thesis, and Patrick Ilmander's Facebook friends list currently shows Arvid Norberg, of BitTorrent amongst its members.

All of this behavior is contrary to what is expected of people who claim to be supporting the adoption of the Blu-ray format, and surely it seems odd that companies like Disney, Sony, Warner, Panasonic, and other members of the BDA should want people involved in pornography and illegal file sharing, whether directly or indirectly, as the unofficial flag bearers of their format. Perhaps the next time CES comes around, these folks can be pointed down the street to the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo where they belong.

It is also quite alarming to me that no one else there on the staff has come forward with this information. Given the ease with which the information can be obtained, I can only assume that many of them choose to stay silent and it is indicative of the entire culture there -- everyone jockeying for their own advancement and trying to rub elbows with "industry insiders," turning a blind eye to the truth, even if it means chastising a good person who tries to point out the kind of people Ilmander and Henriksson truly are.

Having had firsthand experience with the two Swedes, Henriksson and Ilmander, and the people they hired as the front for their site such as Ben Williams -- a man who lost his position at Home Theater Forum for lying about an altercation between Bill Hunt and Universal's Ken Graffeo at The Digital Bits/Home Theater Forum 10-year Anniversary party -- I knew they were not good, professional people and now I know why. It has now come to my attention that Ben Williams no longer works for Blu-ray.com. It is my opinion that his run there was a travesty. I will not stay silent on this any longer. I feel it is my duty to inform the studios, the BDA, the MPAA, and the RIAA and I feel it is imperative to alert the media, PR companies, and general public about the unscrupulous character of these people.

This should be of particular interest to Disney, considering a person claiming to be one of Disney's own prominent audio engineers, D. Terrence Benitez or Terrence Broadnox -- if either of those are even his real name -- once worked under the alias "Sir Terrence" on the Blu-ray.com staff as a Blu-ray Disc reviewer and has posted on their Blu-ray Forum as an industry "insider." He has also been known to plagiarize other people's writing. I should think that Disney, the "family company," would be the last ones that would want their employees and their brand associated with people who could be seen as porn peddlers and scam artists promoting the theft of intellectual property. Personally, I would recommend that anyone associated with these disreputable people distance themselves before their character damages your reputations. Update: "Sir Terrence" is also now no longer working for Blu-ray.com as a Blu-ray Disc reviewer.
